With the arrival of the new royal baby in the UK, everyone wanted to know what Prince William and Kate were going to name their son. When they announced that his name is George, there was much debate and discussion as to what the name would signify for the prince.

If we look at some famous Georges in the movies, perhaps this will give some clues to the new royal’s personality.

It’s a Wonderful Life is consistently listed as one of the top feel good movies of all times. Frank Capra’s 1946 movie tells the tale of George Bailey, a man who spends his life trying to help others. The American Film Institute lists George Bailey as the 9th greatest screen heroes and with good reason – even as a child, George puts others before himself, losing the hearing in his left ear when he rescues his younger brother from drowning.

Young George’s ambition is to study before travelling around the world, but always ends up putting it off because someone needs his help. This is unlikely to be a problem for Prince George – as one of the British royal family, he’ll probably be jetting around the world before he can even walk.

George takes his altruism a little too far, contemplating suicide when he fears he cannot assist his uncle pay back a large sum of money. If the Prince George turns out to be as caring and considerate as George Bailey, he’ll need to be careful not to get too emotionally involved with the people he helps.
