Any time you take up the challenge of creating a Best-Of List you inherit a host of challenges. The list will, of course, be based on the opinion of an admiring public. The first problem is, in the case of the superhero, for a long time the average fan was either a 10-14 year old boy, or a 45 year old male comic book collector, still living with his Mother. All jokes aside, though, boiling down the list of Prime Grade A superhero hunks to a select 5 was not easy, first of all what makes a superhero hunky? The answer I most frequently received was that the actor playing the part should be tough but sensitive, well-built but not bulky, and handsome with a great voice but not too perfect. OK, so not asking much right!? Well believe it or not, after pouring over websites, polling fans and non-fans alike, I managed to find a list of super-specimens that fit the bill.
#5 Blade [ aka: Eric Brooks ]
Actor, Hunk #5: Wesley Snipes
Comic Book Company: Marvel Comics
Movies: Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), Blade Trinity (2004)
Description: The Blade character is a Vampire Slayer. His Mother was bitten by a Vampire so Blade inherited some Vampire powers, life-extension and the hunger which needed to be controlled with a serum.
All you have to do is look at a promo-photo of Wesley Snipes, especially during Blade Trinity and you can easily understand why he made it to this list. He obviously takes pride in being fit, and as the story goes he is well-trained in the martial arts, holding a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan karate and a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido. He is known to do his own stunts and if that isn’t enough to make him a hunk, maybe the fact that he played Blade in three movies who’s first-weekend grosses topped a combined $65,000,000.00
