The world will end on June 3rd, 2014, or is it the 2nd, or maybe it’s 2015, it probably just depends on whom you ask. There is always someone who is claiming the end of the world is coming, and I suppose eventually one of them is going to be right. Until then, though, I’ll just enjoy all the great end-of-the-world movies. We all seem to have a fascination with movies that show humans dealing with their ultimate demise from earthquakes, meteorites, or nuclear holocaust. Of these films, certain ones stand out as the best. Some because their story is believable and puts a little fear in us, some are just great action flicks, either way they make

#10 – The Seventh Sign (1988)

Director: Carl Schultz
Writers: Clifford Green, Ellen Green
Stars: Demi Moore, Michael Biehn, Jürgen Prochnow
Production Company: TriStar Pictures, Interscope Communications, ML Delphi Premier Productions

Another film about religious apocalypse. This time around the world the signs of the Biblical apocalypse, as described in the Book of Revelation, are being witnessed. Each time after the visitation of the same stranger to the area. The seventh, and final, sign needed for the world to end will, again, be the birth of the Antichrist. This time the mom is to be Demi Moore, lucky Devil, and the race is on to stop the signs from happening.

#9 – War Games (1983)

Director: John Badham
Writers: Lawrence Lasker, Walter F. Parkes
Stars: Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, John Wood
Production Company: United Artists, Sherwood Productions

A teen-hacker finds a back door into a military mainframe computer while trying to find games. He starts what he thinks is a nuclear war game, but actually it is a real strike scenario that the confused computer starts implementing in reality. This film is an 80’s classic. Probably the first mainstream Hacker film. This movie almost got all my computer games taken away for good by my parents, and this was before the Internet became Big!
