Another Bible epic is on the way as Ridley Scott’s Exodus agrees Joel Edgerton to play Ramses, the Egyptian leader featured in the Bible book.
Given that Scott’s put out such blockbusters as Gladiator, we can expect big things from the new interpretation of the story of Moses (to be played by Christian Bale). With shooting scheduled for next month in Morocco, Spain and the UK, more details should be released soon about what to expect.
The bestselling book in the world has inspired a number of films over the years, unsurprisingly. Here’s a selection of some of the best.

5. The Prince of Egypt

DreamWorks Animation’s The Prince of Egypt is another adaptation of the Biblical Book of Exodus and follows Moses through his life as a prince of Egypt and then as the leader of the children of Egypt. A number of major Hollywood actors voiced characters in the movie, including Val Kilmer in the title role, Ralph Fiennes as Rameses II, Sandra Bullock as Miriam, Moses’ sister, Michelle Pfeiffer as Tzipporah, Moses’ wife, Jeff Goldblum as Aaron, Moses’ brother and Patrick Stewart as Pharaoh Seti I, Rameses’ father who adopts Moses.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song with When You Believe, which was also nominated for a Golden Globe, making it the first of DreamWork’s movies to win an Oscar.

It was highly successful at the box office and was the highest grossing non-Disney animation until 2000, when it was overtaken by another DreamWorks offering, Chicken Run.
