The latest Disney outing, Frozen is due to be released at the end of this year. As its name would suggest, it is based in a kingdom condemned to an everlasting winter after Elsa the Snow Queen (Idina Menzel) casts a spell on it. Her sister Anna (Kristen Bell) decides to go and find Elsa in a bid to end the cold, enlisting the help of some friends along the way.

As with all things Disney, it promises to be visually stunning, and the backdrops are bound to be beautiful. However, it’s not the first film that used winter to tell its tale – here’s a selection of some of the best snowbound stories.

5. My Little Eye

My Little Eye was inspired by the then new innovation in reality programming, Big Brother and features an early appearance by Bradley Cooper.

The story revolves around a group of five young people who agree to stay in a house for six months and be filmed 24/7. If they remain in the house for the entire six months, they will win $1 million, but if just one of them leaves, none of them will see any money.

Unlike Big Brother, where the series makers introduce a number of tasks and activities to make for more entertaining viewing, My Little Eye is more of an endurance test. Anyone watching it as events transpire would long since have switched off out of boredom, but things take a very dramatic turn in the last few days, when snow means the contestants are trapped in their isolated home and they discover that the kind of entertainment they’re meant to be providing isn’t what they thought.
