Sometimes a movie is so terrible that it leaves us wondering how anyone ever thought it was good enough to even go into production. Well as it turns out, we have no idea how bad some of these movies could be. This list covers 10 unbelievably terrible movie ideas that almost got made.
7. Forrest Gump 2
After the popularity of Forrest Gump the author of the source material penned a sequel that screenwriter Eric Roth could not wait to turn into a movie, as well. The plot starts immediately after the first movie ends and features Forrest delving into his past this time chatting up a new group of people.
The new movie would cover two decades, the 1980s and ‘90s, and have Gump making appearances all throughout world history again, including meeting Princess Diana, fighting in Dessert Storm and accidentally being responsible for O.J. Simpson’s acquittal. The movie would end with Forrest Gump at the Oklahoma City bombing. However, after 9/11 Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis thankfully pulled the plug on the project.
6. Mel Gibson’s The Macabees
Mel Gibson was at one time known not only as a great actor but also as a prolific director with such films as Apocalypto and Braveheart under his belt. Now, he is mostly known as the guy who has pretty much undone his career by going on one too many racist and xenophobic rants.
In the aftermath of a PR disaster where a recording of Gibson’s drunken rants went viral, it was announced that Gibson would be directing a movie about the life of Hebrew hero Judah Maccabee. Not surprising, the announcement was followed by protests from Jewish groups. Gibson then had a huge falling out with the project’s screenwriter and Warner Brothers finally canceled the project.
